Grant Making Process

Application Process

If an organization believes its mission, purpose and/or program fits within the Price Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies’ mission and grantmaking guidelines, it is invited to apply for a grant as follows:

Letter of Inquiry

The first step in submitting an application is to send a letter of not more than two pages that describes:

The organization and its experience in the field.

What does the organization propose to do; why is the project or program needed; how will it be administered and by whom; who will be served and where; how will the organization evaluate success; and how does the project or program relate to the Foundation’s areas of concern.

The amount and terms of the grant request, how the funds will be used, the amount of the total project or program budget, and other sources of funds.

Full Proposal

If the letter of inquiry is approved for further consideration, additional materials about the organization will need to be sent including:

The organization’s overall budget, including projected income, and its sources.

The most recent certified audit report, if available.

The most recent annual report, if published.

Internal Revenue Service Determination Letter of Tax-Exempt Status as a 501(c)(3) organization.

A copy of the organization’s listing in the IRS Publication 78 – The Cumulative List of Qualified Charities Described in Section 170(c) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986.

The preferred format for a grant proposal application can be found by navigating to the following website:  http://www.nng.org/html/resources/cga_table.htm. If you are invited to submit a full proposal, we would prefer you use the Common Grant Application found at the above website.

When the Institute receives a proposal, an acknowledgement is usually sent within two weeks, unless the request clearly falls outside its program areas, in which case it is immediately declined. Each proposal selected for consideration is reviewed by staff. In the course of the review, staff may undertake a site visit or meet with the respective grantee representatives. Following staff review and recommendation for further consideration, proposals are forwarded on a periodic basis to the Board of Trustees for final consideration. Once the Board makes it decision, the applicant is contacted by letter shortly thereafter informing the organization of the Board's decision.

Follow-up Reporting and Assessment

An organization receiving a grant is generally expected to report on the progress of its project or program. In order to achieve uniformity of follow-up reports and assessments, the Foundation may ask certain grantees to complete the Price Foundation Grant Reporting Form (a Word document). If requested, the Form should be completed by the date indicated in the grantee’s original grant award letter.
